- 2009 Recap
Paramore
When the now lead singer of the band Paramore, Haley Williams moved from her home in Mississippi to Franklin Tennessee at the age of thirteen, she met brothers Josh and Zach Farro, who play guitar and drums. They soon asked her to join their band, and opened her eyes to classical music, like U2 and The Cure, and more modern bands like Sparta and Failure. Haley's neighbor Jason Bynum soon joined the band, and they began playing local gigs and at their school's talent show. Soon there were many labels that were eager to sign them.
They decided to go with Fueled by Ramen, whose founder John Janick had only seen them perform once, and immediately wanted to sign them. In March 2005, the band went to Orlando, Florida for a few months because "We wanted to get away from the distractions of home and just practice, write songs, record and do shows - all the things that a band does," Hayley said.
They began sessions that would lead up to the recording of their first full-length album, All We Know is Falling. They enlisted for John Hembree to be the bass in the band, filling the empty spot. "I always try to write from personal experience," she says. "At first what I was writing was kind of metaphorical, but now I've been trying to be more straightforward. It's all about things that have happened to me or to the people that I love."
They have toured alongside bands like Less than Jake, Anberlin, and Copeland, along with many tours for Fueled by Ramen. The summer following the release of their first album led to their second album, Riot! which went platinum in its first thirteen months, and earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. They continued touring to support the album, and even landed a two-month tour across the U.S. with their idols, Jimmy Eat World.
They have recently found time to contribute two songs to the Twilight soundtrack, including Decode, which became a Top 40 single. They released The Final Riot! several weeks after finishing recording for the Twilight soundtrack. The Final Riot! captures the band's energy as a live act and concluding its tour.
